Something I Miss

I miss the carefree days as a child. Playing on my swing set and gazebo. Riding my 12-speed bike around the East side of Detroit. Watching shows like Full House, Family Matters, Cosby Show, and A Different World on Friday nights, then waking up Saturday morning to watch Saved by the Bell and Wonder Years. What I really miss is the ability to sleep in. Now I have an internal clock that goes off at 6 a.m. every morning without fail. I miss adjusting the thermostat without a second thought. Now I keep it at a steady temp to keep control of my heating bill. Being an adult sucks. There are responsibilities. There are bills to be paid. The 1st of the month used to just symbolize a new month. Now the 1st of the month means a mortgage payment is due. There are critical life-changing decisions to make. Moves to be made. Money to earn. The list goes on. But this is what I miss: a carefree childhood.

  1. You need to get a bike - a spin around the block, like the old days, will transport you. :-)

  2. Funny you suggest that, Kelly! I thought about purchasing a bike last summer. My laziness threw that idea out of the window. But you know what? I'm going to purchase a bike when the weather breaks now. I could use that good spin around the block!

  3. Riding a bike is so medicinal. I rode eveywhere as a child and a teenager. I used to do 30 mile trips to the beach one way at least once a week. I don't know what it is about riding a bike, but it's magical. I started riding again about 5 years ago for about 2 years until I severely broke my foot and had to have two surgeries. My foot has not been the same since. I have asked my hubby to take my bike in for air as I want to attempt to ride again. I look forward to the breeze blowing in my face again and bringing back the memory of childhood. I know I could never do the 30 miles again. I just had gotten up to 5 miles right before I broke my foot after being extremely inactive for several years.

  4. Yogi, how inspiring! I agree there is something about riding a bike that is just magical. It's also a great way to stay fit.

Hope your foot improves and you are able to ease back into riding soon.
